When I hit Esc, I got a message saying "selected boot drive failed, press any key to reboot system." It gives me the option of changing boot mode to:īut I did not select either of these options. As mentioned above, when I changed secure boot to Disable on a different menu, it only made things worse, so I did not select turning secure boot to "off" on this menu. The last option is to enter the boot mode settings, where it says the boot mode is set to you UEFI, with secure boot on. When I tried selecting Gset BIOS Flash update, neither the mouse nor the keyboard seems to do anything. The other options it gives are to enter Diagnostics, with showed no hard drive, and to enter set up which, as described above, I already checked the settings. When I selected Windows boot manager, I just got a message that the selected boot device failed. The only UEFI options I had were Windows boot manager, on board and NIC IPV4 and NIC IPV6. All I got was a screen saying boot mode is set to UEFI, and that secure boot was on.

I couldn't find any command prompt, or any way place asking me to type the full BIOS filename and press Enter. There was no option to select USB Storage Device and press Enter. However, after hitting F12, there was no One Time Boot Menu.

I then followed Dell Support's instructions to install BIOS update using a USB flash drive by hitting F12, while the Dell Logo came on the screen, as listed on:

That did not help.Ĥ) Legacy Option ROMs was already set to Enable.ĥ) Secure Boot was set to Enable, so I tried changing it to Disable but that only made matters worse, as now I did not even get the Dell System telling "me no bootable drive detected." Now I only got a message about Intel corporation, so I switched it back to Disable, but when that happened, Legacy Option ROMs got switched to Disable, and won't switch back to Enable.Ħ) I followed the instructions on /support to Create a Bootable USB Flash Drive using Dell Diagnostic Deployment Package (DDDP), and I followed the instructions to download the latest BIOS for my service tag number to that Bootable Flash drive. Here are the tips I have already followed from other posts in the Dell Community:ġ) I have checked and AHCI Is already enabled on.ģ) I unplugged the system, disconnected the battery and held the power button for 30 sec. I have read many similar posts here in the Dell Community, and tried following the tips from those posts, to no avail. I called Samsung tech support, and they told me that they use a generic driver, so it must be a problem with the Dell BIOS, they said. It is in as tight and far as it could go in the SATA port. I have seated the SSD correctly and have double and triple checked it many times. When I run on board diagnostics, it indicates there is no hard drive. When I turn on the laptop (many re-tries), I get an error message saying: The hard drive failed, so I purchased a Samsung 850 EVO 1TB SSD to replace it.
